Teya's Education Journey

Documentation of my education journey

October 16th – Lambrick High

Today we had a field-trip/experience day at Lambrick high-school where we got to choose 4 classes to sit in and observe. I sat in on a History 12 class, Film class, Human Anatomy class, and a Drama class. The one that pertains to out Tech class is the Film class, which was really interesting because we got to observe how high-school kids were screenwriting their own short films. Each partnering of students had already come up with their own story, and by using a medium called “Celtx,” were starting to write their scripts in a professional way. Their usual teacher had brought them to the computer lab to have a special lecture from another teacher at the school who happened to have a degree in Screenwriting from CapU. He took them through the basics of professional screenwriting, which included fade in/fade out, slug lines, action dialogue, and dialogue. He stressed the importance of screenwriting etiquette and expectations, and then gave an example of good screenwriting. The example he used for good, natural screenwriting was a clip the the movie “The Social Network.” This gave the kids a really good foundation for their own screenwriting knowledge.
