Week 2 – Hand Study Sketch – Free Inquiry

For this week, I did a study of hands and their movement. I used my own hand for reference, which made it realistic because I could follow the movement of my own hand while doing the sketches. Hands are a particular point of difficulty for many artists, myself included, because there are many joints between the palm and the fingers. Knuckles are especially difficult. This was a really fun exploration, because in the past, I’ve avoided drawing hands on characters in drawings by handing hands behind their back so I wouldn’t have to deal with them. I easily got frustrated with trying to draw hands and would often give up altogether. This study, though difficult, was a lot of fun in finally being able to do something I’ve put off for so long.
